The martian: Cooler then the movie

I read this years apart, right away i do want to say the ending was better in the book then the movie, I'm still perplexed why the movie changed the ending to mark pulling the "iron man". Like for so much of it they quite honestly faithfully recreated the book, but instead of pulling off a really cool ending with vogel building a bomb and blowing out a airlock.

That brings me to the end of my mini rant. Overall I just enjoyed how real the story felt, when you become aware of the basics of orbital mechanics, or how pressure works etc most stories in space don't make sense. The martian felt so much more realistic. The one aspect that was clearly out of Weir's wheel base was anything related to computers.

There is a very low chance a software dev has a hex editor, or for that matter a rover has the same, there's no way NASA wants a editor that could corrupt the rovers operating system. Overall you could tell Weir was a little out of his depth with this. Johanssen as a character felt more like a 5 person dev team in one person.

Overall I really liked the book, and I looking forward to reading other books by Andy Weir in the future,
