Coming from a v ignorant place when it comes to Balkan history - this book was fascinating. Telling the subtleties and daily little nothings of communist Albania, and the transition to the "free world". The word "free" is recurring in the book, on purpose, and it's a very insightful exploration of what it can mean, how it's been used, and its malleable nature. One of my fav reads of the year hands downnnnnn
