Wow, I really enjoyed the film but this was terrible. It is pretty faithful to the film, meaning there is nothing different here (except for lots and lots of description). In hindsight, you see just how little plot there was in the film but in that form, it didn't matter so much. Here, it stands out like an vast canyon.
The biggest problem, however, was the writing was just terrible. I don't know if I've read much Alan Dean Foster, but apparently he isn't a terrible author. But the writing here is clunky, plodding and flat. And all of it is written in the style of a film trailer, high drama, crash, bam.
More annoyingly, every action was repeated over and over, 'she did this but then soon she was going to do this other thing because of that and because of the thing she just did she was going to do this other thing which she then just did and then this next thing, blah blah'.
If you are looking for something deeper than the film, don't bother, you won't find it here, just a frustrating transcription of the film.
