@namnatulco@bookwyrm.social this book was really quite depressing in its last pages, describing and predicting further escalations (as far as I can tell, this edition is one updated from 2021, but some time before the events of October 7th) in reference to Israeli nationalism, sinking support for the Palestinian authorities (PA and PLO) and further gains for Hamas.

@namnatulco@bookwyrm.social The closing paragraph even suggests various geopolitical consequences, including the threats to European jews, increased (forced) migration from the region and further radicalization of those that remain.

Overall, I'd recommend the book a lot, though I don't agree with the blurbs on the cover, which call it empathetic - I would say it's a fairly dry and thorough historical and political science look at events and connections over the past 100 years or so.
