Cory Doctorow: Information Doesn't Want to Be Free (2014, McSweeney's)

Information Doesn't Want to Be Free takes on the state of copyright and creative success …

Review of "Information Doesn't Want to Be Free" on 'Goodreads'

Magnificent treatise on Copyright, The Arts, The Internet, and everything in between. Absolutely a must-read for anyone creating any sort of art these days. Doctorow is a very knowledgeable writer (he has been a part of the Electric Frontier Foundation and Creative Commons) but he comes off as a down to earth kind of guy. He explains beautifully how the legislator cooperates with the entertainment industry and Big Tech to suffocate freedom of expression on the world wide web.

Karla McLaren: The Language of Emotions (AudiobookFormat, 2010, Sounds True)

Review of 'The Language of Emotions' on 'Goodreads'

Books of this type are usually incredibly bullshitty, packed with with toxic spiritually that asks you to discard your negative emotions or transcend the realm of the emotion altogether. McLaren is of a different perspective: she sees all emotions as valid, important and generally misunderstood functions of the soul. Her ideas on Anger and Sadness were very powerful for me, simultaneously intuitive and revolutionary. Some of the chapters were too long and repetitive in my opinion, while others were quite ground breaking (e.g. McLaren is a sexual trauma survivor, and her ideas on healing from trauma are very useful), so all in all I would say this is an excellent book that you can also read continuously and not continuously.

Stanisław Lem: His master's voice (1999, Northwestern University Press)

Review of "His master's voice" on 'Goodreads'

The last thing you would probabley want to read by Lem.
While being a very brave investigation about the nature of miscommunication and separateness (not just in language but ontologically), this book drags on endlessly and is, all things considered, quite boring.

Stanisław Lem: The Futurological Congress (from the memoirs of Ijon Tichy) (1985, Harcourt Brace Jovanovich)

Review of 'The Futurological Congress (from the memoirs of Ijon Tichy)' on 'Goodreads'

I absolutely did not expect this from Lem. I'm a die-hard fan of Lem, and from what i've read so far i've gathered that he writes eerie, slow, deep stories. This book, though, is written in an upbeat, very psychedelic style, somewhat like that of Philip K. Dick's. Very fun read. Not really that thought provoking or moving as I expected from him, but very funny and captivating nonetheless.

reviewed The little book of restorative justice by Howard Zehr (The Little books of justice & peacebuilding)

Howard Zehr: The little book of restorative justice (2002, Good Books)

Review of 'The little book of restorative justice' on 'Goodreads'

I think Restorative Justice is one of the greatest ideas of our time, and I found that this book gives a perspective on the subject that is simultaneously wide and incredibly concise. Hopefully it will be read by more people and its viral ideas will spread to more and more minds.

Sally Rooney: Arkadaşlarla Sohbetler (Paperback, 2020, MonoKL)

Review of 'Arkadaşlarla Sohbetler' on 'Goodreads'

So I once again finished a Rooney novel and am once again a shell of a man. lol. I will now have to read or watch 2-3 mindless, slightly lighthearted, pieces, just to take my mind off this book.
This was a very similar experience to Normal People. I felt like I knew the characters personally - I have friends who are like that. Everything was so extremely real and precise. It was hot to touch and burned my fingertips. To summarize: It was horrible, but at the same time - wonderful. A very masochistic experience, but one that is precious.
