I’m really disliking this book more and more as it goes on, I’m sure others can critique it better. The themes of dystopia in utopia and a society’s attempts at keeping humans’ baser impulses in check are interesting. But every male character in this is an uninteresting shallow stereotype of toxic masculinity or emasculation. The southerners being dumb hillbilly zealots was the last straw for me. But I’m invested and want to know how it all ends so I guess I’ll skim the rest.

So far I’m really enjoying this one, a murder mystery in an alternate world where bio-engineering is the main technology and kaiju keep attacking the coastal cities. Sherlock Holmes + Attack on Titan + Pacific Rim.
