I read a critic quote “the perfect novella,” and I think they said it best. I loved this book and will return to it again soon.

This book was marketed as spooky, unsettling horror and mystery, but all I got was something incredibly depressing and banal (not in a profound way). It was written well and was very atmospheric, but I cannot help feel deceived having read the book under false pretenses. I do not like the genre of literature it ended up being, and would not have read it had it been described accurately.
Please be honest with your readers, it’s insulting when authors believe they must falsely inflate their work to attract readers. I wish I could get my time back.

This book has a very fun concept but is doing WAY too much. Too many characters, too many moving pieces, too much action, too much fatphobia, and too much of the author’s “style.” I pushed through hoping for a reveal / payoff… but it fell flat. I wish I hadn’t read this.

I couldn’t finish this book. The characters all felt one dimensional, the protagonist was insufferable, and Broder’s writing was half-baked, at best. This felt like a first draft.
