Meh. Read this book just because of the author, but it was pretty disappointing. A good humour author has a light touch, but here every point is as subtle as a lead balloon, and generally about as funny, too. The characters are universally pretty unlikable, including the protagonist.
I think what impressed me least was the lack of even the slightest attempt to be internally consistent. For example, the protagonist is an NPC in a generic medieval style computer game, yet regularly uses analogies from 20th century life (for example, describing something as flickering like a broken light; or as looking like a chocolate eclair; neither if which the character would ever have encountered in his life).
Overall: unfortunately disappointing; I'd hoped for better from this author.
