Een omvangrijk werk waarbij het nét wel lukt om empathie te blijven voelen voor de twee hoofdpersonen. Ik heb erg genoten van de taal, die zowel in vorm als inhoud de lezer meesleept naar de laatste jaren van de 19e eeuw.
