Glennon Doyle: Untamed 4 stars

Review of 'Untamed' on 'Goodreads'

4 stars

I tend to avoid Oprah's darlings because they often take themselves too seriously, pretend to have everything figured out, and act as if the world is their ministry, all of which turns me off. I've lumped Glennon Doyle into this camp since she first crossed my radar as a "Christian Mommy Blogger" (three words that, even without Oprah's endorsement make me vomit) a decade or so ago, shining a spotlight on her "perfect" family and marriage with quotes that were ready-made needlepoint affirmations.

And yet... I've heard great things about this book, so when I was browsing the library's list of available audiobooks and spotted it, I decided (against my long-held bias) to give it a go. And you know what? It was solid. She might be a bit too "life coach with a megaphone" for my taste, but she's a good writer and storyteller, and she puts into words some lessons and ideas that can help women recognize and reject some of the societal programming that has stifled their power.
