Review of "Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World's Most Dangerous Man" on 'Goodreads'
3 stars
I needed to grab an audiobook for a walk so I browsed the library's "currently available" list – and ended up with this book. I'm generally not one for explosive tell-alls, so this was a bit of a stretch for me, but it held my attention.
There weren't any really new revelations in this book (we get it, he's a selfish narcissist!) but it confirmed much of what I assumed – that he's a dick, he was raised by a dick, and the family is morally bankrupt.
I found myself wondering how equipped I'd be to write a tell-all book about any of my aunts or uncles. Since I generally only saw them once a year, I'd be limited to stories I heard from my parents and I'd probably need to over-work my few interactions. That's sort of what this feels like. Interesting to see behind the scenes, but it's a limited vantage point.
It seems the more interesting story would be of the author's father's slow slide into alcoholism. She spends a good bit of the book on it, but it could've been more powerful to center a book on him, rather than casting him as a side character.
