Michelle Sagara West: The Broken Crown (The Sun Sword, Book 1) (Paperback, 1997, DAW) 3 stars

4 stars

This was a really annoying book. I was attempting to read The House Wars in the suggested order and enjoyed my time with it. I therefore began this book in the hopes that it would be just as captivating. But I think this book is a bit too complicated overall. It's almost as though I've started reading the second book instead of the first in a series. I had also reviewed this book on shabd.in and kindle.

Rosette Poletti, Barbara Dobbs: Resilienz (Paperback, Deutsch language, 2014, Scorpio Verlag) 4 stars

Amazing!

No rating

Though I wasn't made more resilient by the book. However, my perspective on resilience has changed. If that's correct, I'm stronger than I thought I was despite my depression and the limitations it brought about. I make the best decision I can given the circumstances.

I did, however, feel that the case studies were a little bit overdone.

4 stars

In this magical, humorous story by Cherokee author Thomas King, strong, sassy women and hard-luck, hardheaded men, all looking for a middle ground between Native American tradition and the modern world, perform an elaborate dance of approach and avoidance. Eli and his log cabin stand in the way of a lucrative dam project; Alberta is a university professor who would trade her two boyfriends for a baby but no husband; and Lionel, who is forty years old, is still a television salesman for an arrogant boss. Nothing in the tiny town of Blossom will be the same after these three—and others—arrive at the Blackfoot reservation for the Sun Dance and meet four Indian elders and their trickster companion, Coyote. 4 stars

The most well-known pop star in the world, Sir Damian Cray is also a philanthropist and peace activist. It's still insufficient, though. If he is going to save the world, he needs more. The problem is that Sir Damian Cray is targeting the world, and only Alex Rider realizes this. A twisted mind that is willing to sacrifice everything for his beliefs is hidden beneath the glitter of fame and glamour. However, the government has previously always supported Alex. He is by himself this time. Can one adolescent persuade the entire world—before time runs out—that the most well-liked man on the planet is a lunatic intent on destruction? Deb Chachra: How Infrastructure Works (2023, Penguin Publishing Group) 5 stars

A new way of seeing the essential systems hidden inside our walls, under our streets, …

Amazing!

4 stars

An obvious feat of infrastructure is a soaring bridge, but so are the pipelines, transformers, sewers, cables, and mostly unseen reservoirs that carry information, energy, and water to our destinations. Effectively functioning systems blend in with their surroundings. We rely on these necessities so much that engineer and materials scientist Deb Chachra takes readers on a fascinating tour of them, showing how they operate, what it takes to maintain them, and who pays for them. Along with her, she carries three lethal reptiles that help her cure patients: a cobra, a rattlesnake, and the dreamsnake, a snake whose hallucinogenic venom eases the dying rather than heals them.

Brandon Sanderson, Brandon Sanderson: Defiant (2023, Orion Publishing Group, Limited) 4 stars

Amazing

4 stars

This book was enjoyable and a fitting way to wrap up the series. Though, for a young adult novel, it was fairly straightforward, it had an explosive finish and managed to tie up pretty much all the major plotlines that were ongoing. The story moved along at a rapid pace and had intriguing characters. An enjoyable science fiction/fantasy series overall. I find it exciting that there seems to be more to explore in this universe!

When Rosemary Harper joins the crew of the Wayfarer, she isn't expecting much. The Wayfarer, …

Amazing!

4 stars

Rosemary Harper has low expectations for her time as a member of the Wayfarer crew. All she could possibly want is offered by the Wayfarer, a repaired vessel that has seen better days: solitude in a remote area of the galaxy, adventure in remote corners, and a break from her past traumas.

With the Wayfarer, Rosemary, however, gets more than she expected. With Sissix, the amiable reptile pilot, and Jenks and Kizzy, the perpetually combative engineers who keep the ship afloat, the crew is a jumble of species and personalities. Rosemary is happy that the chaotic yet generally calm life aboard is what she desires.

The nation has started to realize it is going to be involved in a protracted, violent conflict as the fighting has intensified. As this is going on, Willie, the president's adored eleven-year-old son, is critically ill and resting upstairs in the White House. Willie passes away in a few days, defying expectations that he will recover, and is buried in a Georgetown cemetery. The president remarks at the time, "My poor boy, he was too good for this earth." I love a good puzzle and mystery books. I had read it from shabd.in and kindle . A good game is something I like to watch. But I much rather read books with real people as the characters than ones where they're just pieces of a chessboard. As a chess player who enjoys the game, I say this.

Stranger than expected vampires have made their way to Lancre. They may consider humans to be dinner and consume blood, but they are sophisticated and modern. They wear elegant waistcoats and exude style. They also have no fear whatsoever of garlic.

Worth it!

4 stars

It takes a while to warm up but picks up speed quickly. It was enjoyable. That was enjoyable because there aren't many middle-aged women writing cool shit books. Great rep. It's great to read a book that reminds me of masjid evenings. Additionally, I thought Dunya's little twist was well-done and welcomed. I'm excited to read the remaining books in the series.

I think this should get published on other online publishing platforms. so it can reach more people. Relax I will not tell the spoiler part. haha! enjoy it!

good one!

This book was such fun! Although it's a relatively light adventure, it features an emotional journey, a few characters that are relatable, and a setting that seems to be a mostly happy future with some vaguely dark periods in the past. I have read it from kindle and shabd.in

Thomas Pynchon: Mason & Dixon 4 stars

Charles Mason (1728-1786) and Jeremiah Dixon (1733-1779) were the British surveyors best remembered for running …

Must Read

4 stars

Thomas Pynchon has reimagined their story, which includes a lot of caffeine abuse, ripped bodices, naval warfare, erotic and political conspiracies, and Native Americans and frontier folk. Our journey takes us on a grand tour of the dark hemisphere of the Age of Reason, as we follow the mismatched pair—one rolling, the other depressive; one Gothic, the other pre-Romantic—from their first journey together to the Cape of Good Hope, to pre-Revolutionary America, and back, through the strange yet redemptive turns of fortune in their later lives.

Over all, the book was worth it, I also tried to find it on other online book platforms too, but I didn't get it.

Relax I will not tell the spoiler part. haha! enjoy it!

In the violent Poppy Wars, Nikan has battled for its existence. Even with the conclusion of the third battle, warrior and shaman Rin will never forget the atrocity she did to save her people. Now, she is running from her own guilt, the vice-like grip of her opium addiction, and the deadly orders of the fiery Phoenix, the vengeful god who bestowed Rin's formidable power.

Over all, the book was worth it, but I also tried to find it on other platforms too, but I didn't get it. I think this should get published on other online platforms like Apple Books, Kindle, Pothi, and Shabd.in so it can reach more people.
