I'm mostly a sci-fi reader, preferring happy feelgood stories, and competency porn, but reading a lot of different stuff makes me happy :)

Mike Brooks: Dark Run (Keiko, #1)

The Keiko is a ship of smugglers, soldiers of fortune and adventurers, travelling Earth’s colony …

Decent book not bad, not great

This was a very formulaic one, it felt kind of like paint by numbers, it's decently entertaining when you're doing it, but it's kind of not so satisfying.

I grew to like the characters towards the end, but the whole grim-punk universe didn't really appeal to me that much.

It's well written though, and have enough driving mysteries that I wasn't in danger of not keeping on reading.

Steve Miller, Sharon Lee: I Dare (Ace)

Really fun Big book, with heart

I really enjoyed this book, it leans quite a lot on those that came before it, and creates a really nice story on the characters of world that has been created earlier. I really had a blast with this one, and seeing it coming together at the end was also really fun. Great characters, great story in a great world :)

Steve Miller, Sharon Lee: Scout's Progress (2002, Ace)

Aelliana Caylon is a brilliant mathematician, but is convinced by her brother she has no …

Really enjoyed this one

I really enjoyed this book, it's pretty slow, follows some really nice people that are working together and going through things. And some romance in there. One of my favourites of the series so far.

It took me a bit to get into this one, but around the 20% mark I got absolutely sucked in, and I'm really enjoying it, one of the ones in the series that I've liked the most so far :)

Nathan Hystad: The Ancients (2018, CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform)

The threat of invaders is gone, and Earth has been bartered away as a price …

Okay adventure with a cliché ending

Yeah, this one was okay, it was kind of a fun adventure story, the ending was very cliché though, and maybe a bit too well telegraphed this time around, it also just didn't feel as good as the others in the series, I hope the next one does it better.

Steve Miller, Sharon Lee: Local Custom (2002, Ace)

Master trader Er Thom knows the local custom of Liaden is to be matched with …

Decent story, with a disliked trope

The story was pretty good, and I enjoyed most parts of it, not a big fan of the "Evil meddling mother in law" trope, it just brings me nothing, I know they will be together in the end. I liked the other parts of the story, this one is more of a love story than sci-fi, still good, but leaning maybe a bit more in that direction than what I wanted, especially since it leant towards actually doing an interesting linugistics kind of story.

Slowly getting better

I'm starting to enjoy this series more and more, the pacing and everything in this one just felt better to me than in the previous ones, now I'm looking more forward to the next one than what I thought I would.

Nathan Hystad: New World (Paperback, 2018, CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, Createspace Independent Publishing Platform)

I'll just go on with these, as they are mostly quite fun, not high literature in any way, but the characters are quite enjoyable, and they are quite quick and fun popcorn reads.

Steve Miller, Sharon Lee: Plan B (2003, Ace)

A rousing militart space adventure with larger than life characters.

Really enjoyed this one

This was a fun book, it kind of went between space opera and mil-sf, two genres that I generally like quite a bit, had a lot of fun with this one, it's well written, and I really liked the characters :D

Linda Nagata: The Bohr Maker (Paperback, 1995, Bantam Spectra)

Nikko is the first true "post human"-a man genetically engineered to survive in the airless …

Misery porn with a good ending

I didn't enjoy the first 80% of this book, it kind of reveled too much in misery, violence and people being dicks to each other. The last 20% when the resistance finally had been building up and things got going it was a lot better.
