I'm really torn about this book. The memoir regarding the hostage situation was well written, and that part had me more interested in reading. It's a shame she had to endure such a thing. But I'm still confused in the first part of the book, such lingers like a bad memory. I'm still feeling like the opening was a bit superfluous and had stereotypical representations of people when it literally served no narrative purpose. It may have seemed as if it did, but it felt uncomfortable to read.
