Jolly good follow up for One of us is Lying. I liked the ending and I really like it that the author didn't drag it on and spend time explaining etc. Just went to here's who done it, no further, which many a author sadly do. A book don't have to end on a silver plate, I enjoy when you can go - I wonder who/what/when/where after you had read The End.

This took me back to the teen movies of the 80's with a new a modern addition. I really enjoyed this book. It didn't feel like a total rip off of Breakfast Club at all, it was a quick, page turner and a read you want to read.
I know sequels are always seen as a bad but I think I will give the follow up book a go, just because I enjoyed the pace and the little hints, twitch and turns and who done it. Even though I guessed right earlier on, just not how it all was linked together.

hmm I didn't get more zen from reading this. Though I do get the zen that is talked about in here. Because I get that feeling when I do archery too, doesn't make me any better at archery, mind. But I removes the stress, helps me relax and gets me outside (I do stomping/roving)

Meh, I can't even give it a star rating, really don't know what to mark it as.
I really don't know why I continued to read this book and not DNF. I think I was hoping that what the blurb on the back said " Until, that is, he starts to cox for the college rowing crew and all hell breaks loose..." would suddenly happen
Or that would be more rowing natter in there, but it was just mainly spoken about as a passing moment. And the "hell" didn't break lose either, when something finally did happen I was half way through the book, I think I was just committed to finish it.
I could easily have not read this book and I wouldn't have missed much either.
At least it kept me from doom scrolling twitter for a few hours.

hmm quite entertaining though not a mater piece. I might read the others if I get bored and is need of something light to read.
Young lad who haven't been trained as a warrior, goes in to a few battles against people who has, and at the most gets a bang on his head, he should really play the lottery

Though I had to fight my way into it. Mainly because the writing style of this book, not bad at all, just was so different to the previous book I read. I nearly gave up on it, but I'm glad that I continued, because I really enjoyed reading it.
Leaning to 4.5.
Certainly a very good book and a page turner.

But in the first 10 or so chapters, we heard more storied about their shenanigans. Work stories that you would share down the pub over a few pints. Where you are comparing silly things you do in work time to kill the monotony. Yes I know they had more reason to do so, since they see the horrific side of humans everyday first hand.
I didn't start to read this book to learn about how distracting high heals and short skirts are multiple times. Or how brilliant she was at typing.
It could have been more than 10 chapters, I don't know as I tended to tune out. And had to rewind back when I noticed this was not a prank but tool/skill they were now speaking about.

I wanted to know about the technics they are using to solve a crime, which steps they took, how learned from each other, how forensics have evolved over the years. There isn't much of that in this book.
As another reviewer put it "a self-indulgent memoir", isn't anything more.
In this dark, suspenseful thriller, Alex North weaves a multi-generational tale of a father and …

wow, I'm back reading my favourite "spookies".
Way back when in my student days where I spend most of my nights reading scary horror books well into the early morning. With authors like Dan Simmons, E. A. Poe, Clive Barker, Shaun Hutson, Stephen King to ramble of a few.
I relived it again - you know that feeling when you know it is a good book and that you are going to be spooked, scared and checking the doors that one more time before heading to bed. But you are loving it, need it and enjoying it - THAT was where Alex took me in this book, thanks!
I truly enjoyed it and that it took me back in time too was an added bonus
