While I found the Warded Man overly simplistic and with too little drama and conflicts too shallow, this sequel is much improved. After the simply childhood stories of the main characters this book introduces their human opponent with as much detail. From there on the drama unfolds.

With this book the Brett's storytelling is taking a leap forward and while I did not want to start reading at first because of the weak first installment, I could not stop reading once I started. Especially once everything is in place for the central conflict, the drama really gets going and the second half of the book was gone way too fast.

Now I am looking forward to the third book ...
