Italo Calvino: Baron in the Trees (2021, Penguin Random House)

Review of 'Baron in the Trees' on 'Goodreads'

The final third of the book, at about after breaking up with Viola, feels rushed. Years have gone by in just a few sentences. It’s a sharp turn from previous meticulous descriptions. And it definitely is a weaker part of the book. Cosimo stops being a strangely real character to a formulated one. The sudden introduction of war makes it feel like Calvino was trying to elevate it somehow, with some attempted critique never materialised.
