A humorous nonfiction book about the author's life, romantical endeavours, friends, habits, work, family (or the lack thereof), priorities, poverty and much more. This book is full of great stories and made me laugh on numerous occasions, sometimes inappropriately. Especially anything related to her work, the pets and their owners. I was less able to relate to certain other aspects, and found the book a bit crude at times. An entertaining read for sure, just not everybody's cup of tea.

A both hilarious and devastating work including some riveting stories and wise insights into one woman's life. I am thankful that Samantha Irby is with us, and no, I won't ever be seeing her in person. I'm guessing that those author readings and book signings aren't her thing.

Seriously, even if my life has been nothing like Samantha's, there is plenty to identify with here, mostly because I'm a woman. I'd recommend this to anyone who is not easily offended by language. I'm very glad to have gained the acquaintance of Samantha Irby's writing.

I tried. I did get halfway through but, Samantha, we're a world apart and I couldn't find enough in this collection of musings and memories to identify with. Sorry hon. Go well.

A mostly enjoyable collection of essays, but sometimes it felt too much—like she was trying really hard to make every single sentence funny instead of just sprinkling in some humor here and there. As a result, it got a little exhausting to read. The diarrhea story, however, made me lol.

If you enjoy humor through trauma, this is absolutely the book for you. Personally, it’s a brand of humor that doesn’t mesh as well with me, and that’s okay!

I’m late to the cathartic writing of Samantha Irby. While I’d rather have her in my life now than never at all, I desperately wish I’d found her years ago. Unflinchingly (more like daring-you-to-flinch) honest, equal parts heart and gut-wrenching, and – somehow even in moments of profound sadness – breathtakingly funny. It was all I could not not to dive right into her first book, Meaty, because, despite appearances, I swear I really am trying to make some progress in my stacks. In the meantime, however, I’m binging on Irby’s blog, bitches gotta eat,and eyeing Meaty as it sits patiently in my Amazon shopping cart. Sigh.

EDIT: I am such a fibber. Since submitting this review, I have, in fact, gone ahead and ordered a copy of Meaty. I regret nothing. Well, nothing to do with marvelous Samantha Irby, anyway.

Gut-bustingly funny, honest, fresh, unique, and moving all at once. Samantha Irby has a unique and hilarious writing style that will have you alternating between laughing aloud and saying "same" repeatedly. Deals with mental and chronic physical illness, relationships, sexuality, body image, race, cats, TV, and everything in between. An absolute riot of a book with a heart of gold. Reminiscent of Jenny Lawson. A gem of an essay collection.
