This one just didn't work for me. One of the things that kind of bothered me was how familiars were able to shift from animal to human forms while retaining their clothes, which would also magically disappear when shifting to an animal. The bonding ritual in itself also felt a bit silly to me, especially with how it was executed between Tom and Cicero. The mystery, while interesting to start out, became something that felt too cliche and wasn't enough to stop me from skimming towards the end. I think the only thing I really enjoyed was Tom himself, and specific moments sprinkled here and there involving his narrative. The other main character, Cicero, didn't feel like much more than a damsel in distress who likes to be overly dramatic.
