Stop the Magician. Steal the book. Save the future.

In modern-day New York, magic is all but extinct. The remaining few who have an affinity for magic—the Mageus—live in the shadows, hiding who they are. Any Mageus who enters Manhattan becomes trapped by the Brink, a dark energy barrier that confines them to the island. Crossing it means losing their power—and often their lives.

Esta is a talented thief, and she’s been raised to steal magical artifacts from the sinister Order that created the Brink. With her innate ability to manipulate time, Esta can pilfer from the past, collecting these artifacts before the Order even realizes she’s there. Starting off, I generally don't like fantasy books, I love urban fantasy, but fantasy just doesn't get me. This sorta straddles the line. Its set in 1900 with some stuff in modern times.

I found the characters that the author chose to focus on were really fun and exciting and interesting. The rest I had trouble following.

I don't know what else to say. I enjoyed the whole experience, got lost a few times with all the characters, but it was an interesting story and felt different than normal. I might check out the next ones in the series, but it does feel like its going to be a long adventure.

3.5 but I can't decide between a 3 and a 4 because goodreads just won't do half stars...

Writing is really good, characters are slowly getting to you, i liked the 1900s new york setting but the book felt long at times and "nothing" was really happening, by the end though, a lot was lol, good first book^^
