1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson adds to his Cosmere universe shared by Mistborn and The Stormlight Archive with a new standalone novel that combines fantasy and science fiction. Narrated by William DeMeritt. Running. Putting distance between himself and the relentless Night Brigade has been Nomad’s strategy for years. Staying one or two steps ahead of his pursuers by skipping through the Cosmere from one world to the next. But now, his powers too depleted to escape, Nomad finds himself trapped on Canticle, a planet that will kill anyone who doesn’t keep moving. Fleeing the fires of a sunrise that melts the very stones, he is instantly caught up in the struggle between a heartless tyrant and the brave rebels who defy him. Failure means a quick death, incinerated by the sun…or a lifetime as a mindless slave. Tormented by the consequences of his past, Nomad must fight …

A Cosmere-heavy standalone racing the sun

5 stars

This was quite a ride, another Cosmere novel which felt like it had a breakneck pace as characters kept running to safety. There's plenty of action and development, though the fast pace limits how much characters could explore of their world. It's probably the most Cosmere-heavy of the Year of Sanderson (though 3 of the novels are set in the Cosmere) so the hints at the greater struggles and connections to other worlds were appreciated.

Another Cosmere Novel!

5 stars

This was a nice tie-in with the Stormlight Archive novels, although you don't have to have read them to enjoy the story. However, there are a lot of Cosmere references in this one, and if you aren't at least a little bit familiar with the lore, you're missing out on many of the little details.

Since I haven't read all of the Cosmere novels yet, there were points in the story where I wished I knew more of the background, to understand the references. Also, it's been some time since I read the Stormlight novels, so I couldn't remember some of the stuff where I thought "wait, that sounds familiar..."

Still, absolutely a recommendation for every Sanderson / Cosmere fan out there!
