Clary's best friend, Simon, can't help her -- his mother just found out that he's a vampire, and how he's homeless. When Jace begins to pull away from her without explaining why, Clary is forced to delve into the heart of a mystery whose solution reveals her worst nightmare: she herself has set in motion a terrible chain of events that could lead to her losing everything she loves. Even Jace.
The stakes are higher than ever in the #1 New York Times bestselling fourth installment of The Mortal Instruments series.

How can it be so addicting?
I read the first 80 pages like "Hmpf, not as good as the first three books." And then. Zoom. It got me. I literally couldn't stop reading (slept way too less that night and had a horrible day at work - but it was worth it!).
Not sure what I think about the end though. The last three pages did confuse me a bit and I'm not very happy about it. Well, next book is already waiting for me on my shelf.
Yep, what to say? Simon is getting a really interesting character and I guess we will soon meet some more old companions from TID. HELL YES! I want that :)
The new evil creatures reminded me of the TV series Supernatural, I would not have been surprised if Dean Winchester was coming around the corner and waving some salt towards that creepy …

All in all: a must read for TMI fans. Although we had the PERFECT end in book 3, keep on reading. For me it was the right decision to wait some years after book 3. (Huge book hangover!)
Plus: yay - soon we will have a Shadowhunter TV series. I like the cast! Please don't cancel it after the first season! Please!!
3.5 stars out of 5.
This is the point in the series where I really wished this had stopped at being a trilogy, no need to keep the story going. Things start to feel a bit silly but for some reason I still need to keep reading these books.
Maybe if the newer characters where better I might have enjoyed this one more.
Though I didn't like how this fourth book in the Mortal Intruments series ended, I still like whatever Cassandra Clare writes. This was not my favorite book in the series and I'm hoping that the fifth book will be good and that the ending will be better. I mean, I guess I understand why she ended it this way. It's meant to be a cliff hanger, a continuation on to the next book, but that doesn't mean I had to like it. The plot was a bit more sketchy to me than the other books were. I kept feeling while reading it dragged along and not like I was.... really INTO the story. The characters, as always, were pretty amazing. Jace and Clary had many issues throughout the book as did Simon. It seems that Simon has grown up alot since being the geeky guy in love with his bestfriend …

I kept feeling while reading it dragged along and not like I was.... really INTO the story. The characters, as always, were pretty amazing. Jace and Clary had many issues throughout the book as did Simon. It seems that Simon has grown up alot since being the geeky guy in love with his bestfriend and knew he didn't have a chance in hell of really having her as his own. I'm glad that he moved on. I always felt sorry for Simon whenever his point of view was shown in the previous books (his thoughts about Clary and how he loved her). I never truly understood Jace's behavior, though. I didn't understand why he thought he could never have Clary. I hate it when he punishes himself for actions happening to him beyond his control. I know he felt guilty for what he did to Clary, but it wasn't his fault. I like Isabelle and Simon together. Maia and Jordan getting together is nice as well, even though I kind of liked Simon and Maia together. I just hope that the fifth book will be better.
