Content warning mild spoilers about the Final Battle

my ereader says this took me a full month to read, which is unusually long for me with discworld books. i think i finally figured out what it is i don't like about it though, which is that the books are kinda mean to Magrat. not just that Granny is mean to Magrat, that's just Granny, she's low key (high key) mean to everyone. but like, the book itself kinda treats Magrat like she's not worth much? and even when she gets herself together and decides to defend herself, it doesn't seem to go very far? like, she rocks up to the Final Battle, but then Granny just swoops in to save the day again. i mean, i like Granny, mostly, i like all the witches, but all that meanness just turned me off, and kinda tainted the rest of the book for me.

Disclaimer: you have to read all other witches stories prior to this one to enjoy it the most.

I cried several times reading this. Even aside a masterful narration, full of foresight and meticulous planning, this book is simply too wholesome and romantic in the best way possible.

I liked the wordplay on discussing the traits of elves. While I was learning English, I was always perplexed by the etymology of the word "terrific".

With all the fine details feeding off each other, perhaps my favorite one is the bag of sweets quote from the elf queen:

“There’s no trickery here,” said the Queen. “No silly women with bags of sweets.”

“You noticed that, did you?” said Granny. “Gytha meant well, I expect. Daft old biddy. Mind if I sit down?”

“Of course you may,” said the Queen. “You are an old woman now, after all.”

Mir geht die Arroganz von Weatherwax so auf die Nerven, ey.

Ansonsten ein gutes, unterhaltsames Buch. Gehört für mich nicht zu den stärkeren Werken von Pratchett, aber immer noch gut. Ich mag die Darstellung der Elfen und die Shakespeare-ige Atmosphäre, die über der ganzen Handlung liegt.

Außerdem: ein Wiedersehen mit Casanunda! (so schade, dass er nie die Hauptfigur in einem Buch wurde)
