Tech journalist and cross-world-traveller Miriam continues her struggle from the first book, trying to find a way to escape the grasp of her mafia-like family in the alternate world of Gruinmarkt while also trying to evade family enemies who want to murder her, an internal mole within her family who also has no good intentions, and unraveling the truth behind her birth world mother who has also mysteriously vanished. All while discovering the way to a third world and attempting to find a way to establish a profitable business there that might buy her a way to freedom... if she survives long enough.
