I love YA-books from time to time. And I like ghost stories. But this book was dissapointing.

First of all - I felt reminded of one of my favourite TV-shows: Supernatural. But the protagonist of this book was dry, boring, one-dimensional and uninteresting. Gimme the Winchester brothers instead, thank you!

The whole first scene felt like a retelling of the pilot - just with a teenager ghost hunter.

The other characters were not better - stereotypes found in so many books or films, interchangeable and easily forgotten. The love stories in the book? No, I don't buy them either.

There were countless holes in the story: a murder which is never mentioned again, missing teenagers everybody seems to forget - trust me, I used to live in a small town, a murder was talk of the town for years, a missing teenager would have not been forgotten for years - …

Anna Dressed in Blood should be judged by its attractive cover and memorable title, mostly. Yet I read the first chapter and felt my eyes rove heavenward, towards the writing cloudburst of zombies this and werewolves that and now ghosts? Ghosts are not even in my top 5 of favorite paranormalia.
Yet the writing is pretty sharp. And I wanted to meet Anna and find out about her nightgown.

It was a good choice to keep reading. Granted, the ghost-hunting protagonist is a cocky, irritating shit despite his ceaseless wit, but I grudgingly grew to like him. And while the departure from reality is not seamlessly convincing, well, it worked with Buffy and it kind of works here too. It is not quite terrifying as the cover suggests but it is spooky and exceptional and overall a delight.
