Where ash falls from the sky, and mist dominates the night, evil cloaks the land and stifles all life. Criminal mastermind Kelsier teaches Allomancy, the magic of metals, to another Mistborn, urchin Vin 16. The unlikely heroine is distracted by rich Venture heir Elend. Mistborn Review

Very fine book. While I didn't enjoy it as much as the other Sanderson series I've read (The Stormlight Archives) it's noticeably less dense and I went through it a lot faster. This is partially because the topic of revolutionaries might be closer to my heart, but largely because the worldbuilding is less dense and the characters are somewhat less complex (which isn't a criticism, but more of an observation).

Some of the action scenes were particularly strong. As someone who doesn't really have a visual imagination, I could still understand what was going on while also being sufficiently amazed at what was happening. One sequence in particular seemed to come straight out of one of those cool fan animations of Final Fantasy characters that were popular on gametrailers ages ago (really showing my age here).

Absolutely recommended and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
