"With the doomsday asteroid looming, Detective Hank Palace has found sanctuary in the woods of New England, secure in a well-stocked safe house with other onetime members of the Concord police force. But with time ticking away before the asteroid makes landfall, Hank's safety is only relative, and his only relative--his sister Nico--isn't safe. Soon, it's clear that there's more than one earth-shattering revelation on the horizon, and it's up to Hank to solve the puzzle before time runs out . . . for everyone" --

3.5 stars. As usual with the books in this series, my major issue is that it feels there is a lot of randomness and things that are not really well connected to the story. That works in real life, where there is not one story to tell, but not so well in books. All the part with the rednecks for example could be avoided and did not contribute much to the story.

I think the last 10 pages were really fun and plot-twisty so 3.5 stars for the whole book.

Great ending to an exciting trilogy. The world is coming to an end and so is Hank's last case, looking for his sister Nico. Slowly Hank uncovers what exactly his sister has gotten herself into. The reader gets to wonder whether he will manage to solve his last case just in time for October 3, as the days are passing by.

Absolute must-read if you have read the first two. Again, if you haven't, start with The Last Policeman. And you really should if you're into murder mysteries with an interesting twist.

Hank Palace hits the road in this final volume, and it doesn't spend more than a few pages in New England. But World of Trouble is no travelogue ... Winters tells a tight, focused story that happens in a particular place, with a particular crime.

Palace (and by extension the reader) has spent the first two books calmly watching the world lose its mind, with a sort of detached wryness. In this final volume the crisis finally gets to him, and he becomes gradually more unraveled throughout the book. It's a believable transition, skillfully handled by Winters.

I'm always happy to see a trilogy that doesn't flag at the end, doesn't lose it's steam or seem like a chapter too far. I can't say a thing about the last half of this book that wouldn't give something crucial away, except to say that it's about the best, most fulfilling ending …
