The Outskirter's Secret

So here's the second volume of the series and as it's almost double the size, there's a change of pace in the story. Now it's a long march east in hostile land, with its challenges and encounters, and it will take up until the end to have a bit more revelations and clues as to what's really going on. There are some really interesting parts and a few that are a bit boring or repetitive (then again, the land itself seems very repetitive), but all in all, it's well worth it!

Focus shifts from town fantasy conflict to a stranger inhospitable environment and the diffuse intense culture of survival. Some beautiful didactic bits of other ways of organizing kin and relationships, and measured plot revealing a deeper backstory.

It’s hard to review these without giving away the premise and the ways what you think it is shifts as you read it. Environment is huge is this one! The ways we think about it even huger! I’m just going to start making up more words soon, so I’ll stop.

A bit long on exploration of a culture, but really well done and with some interesting stuff about perception. And the conclusion was very gripping.
