The idea was better than the execution.

As an example of my irritation, the Biggs Darklighter story should've been great because…well, Biggs. Maybe I was just so jaded I couldn't appreciate it enough. But it really bugged me that Biggs made an analogy comparing the number of farming communities under Imperial rule to "the number of sands on a Mon Calamari beach" – when literally EVERY other metaphor in the story was related to Tatooine. Listened to the audiobook at work, then had to get a used copy of the book for myself. Great mix of stories - some funny, some serious; some I loved, some yeah, I'll probably never read again. A big part of the appeal of Star Wars for me has always been that it feels like an infinite number of stories that could be told in this setting, that there's potentially something interesting happening just off camera at any given time. Thus I really enjoyed this collection of stories from the perspectives of side/background characters in Episode IV. To be honest, as one of the other reviewers mentioned, some of us were sold once we heard there was going to be a story by Claudia Gray featuring Qui-Gon Jinn. Still, almost all the stories were well worth reading on their own merits.
