Unquestionably captivating. I started with the idea that I would not like it (no idea why) but a few pages in I was hooked.

Despite it being a bit action-packed and a bit edification-packed at the end, I really enjoyed this book. I really loved the techology fantasy that this was based on. I liked that the characters changed their minds, I liked that they had different backgrounds. The ending is quite open, but to me it feels less like a cliffhanger of a first book, but more as a logical consequence of the events of the book. However it does leave me feeling a bit worried for the following books not ruining it. After this book the author has to speculate about how the world changes once a lot and lot of people get their hands on telepathy technology. And that's different than speculating about how just a few people react to it.
Big idea book (transition to posthuman minds, or plausible technology for telepathic empathic magic) fleshed out as an outlandish techno-action thriller. Mixed, I'll give the next one a try.
