It's a decent book, it had me hanging on but at times I was just sloughing through, thinking 'I started it, might as well finish it'. It didn't captivate and at times was too predictable. The characters are relatively flat. The main character doesn't develop much through-out the story. There's a hint of earlier trauma, but the resolution of that traume is later glossed over in a single scene. The ending was a bit unsatisfactory.

I did enjoy the scenery a lot though, and the descriptions of the goings-on at the remote base are interesting in and of themselves (even though sometimes, things are a bit too on-the-nose for my taste, the author wanting to show how well researched his insights are).

All in all, a satisfying read, but not his best.
