Apparently there’s a new trend in the mystery book world - a main character who thinks she’s killed someone, panics and does everything she can to cover it up, and then discovers that she’s actually not the killer. That’s where the sleuthing starts.

Is there a name for this new sub-genre? If there is I don’t know what it is. Any suggestions?

Anyway, this book is well written, entertaining, witty, and the main character is a mystery author. What more could any mystery reader want?

I read this because I saw somewhere that a lot of people were talking about how great it was. I thought it was a cute idea but i didn't think it was the best book in the world. Something about either the Finlay character or the writing nagged me but I'm not sure I can verbalize what it was. I would still probably read the next one in the series because I want to know who put a hit out on Stephen

Let me start by saying: if you need a book to be realistic/plausible, you will hate this novel. It requires a lot of suspension of disbelief. If, however, you can accept that a struggling romance author/suburban mom can keep company with the Russian mafia and get away with murder, then read on. The protagonist makes a shocking number of terrible decisions and somehow manages to get away with them. This was an easy listen and I enjoyed that it was set in the DC suburbs – fun to mentally place it near Dulles, South Riding and Reston. As ridiculous as the book was, it entertained me in a cotton candy kind of way.
