Every time I read one of these non-fantasy, non-sci-fi books I feel slightly surprised that they too are quite enjoyable. And, as this is an adult book, I guess, it has nice sex scenes in it too.
This book felt like complete wish fulfillment fantasy. The protagonist is a gorgeous woman who can stand for herself, every man she gets involved with basically adores her, ultimately she meets a rich, gorgeous, famous guy, who not only adores her, but loves her. Oh, and obvsly is emotionally mature.
So that it's not all fluff the people in the story deal with some past traumas, have some messy circumstances to the falling in love parts. Still, the book feels very light and hot.

I fail to see what it was that made the BookTube-literaty gush so much over this book.

I tend not to DNF books out of principle, as I've already invested precious time, and there's of course always the hope it'll get better eventually.

If you're into selfish individuals who don't care who they hurt as long as they get what they want, and you prefer it dragged out for as long as possible, then this is right up your alley and you're going to love it.

If you're reading this because of the older man/younger woman smutty romance trope that people seem to like, may I suggest you grab a Mills & Boon (or Harlequin if you're in the US) instead. It would make for a much more entertaining read. Probably better written as well.

Can't get back the time I wasted on …

I don’t think I can recommend this book but I want to because I think it would spark some very interesting conversation. Unfortunately… it isn’t actually very good. For one, the writing is not very strong. You could play a drinking game with how often the words “bet” and “facts” are used, a lame (repetitive and boring) attempt to remind you that the characters are black. For another: it’s kind of shallow?

I think I’m inflating the rating. It’s more like 2.5 stars. This is a hard one for me. It’s a fantasy. Like romance-novel-level fantasy. It even has a HEA. On the one hand, I like stories where adult relationships (especially ones that involve actual sexual activity instead of the weird chaste crap you often get with YA and classics/older books) are complex. I also like books that allow their characters to seek out and claim happiness despite what …
