Book Lovers

The writing was actually hilarious. I was cackling, and kicking my feet like an insane person almost all the way through. On top of that, the families in this story were so flushed out and beautifully written, and the way everyone is so wonderfully represented is incredible. Main love story was incredible, funny, and tender, I cried like a baby at multiple points towards the end. I appreciate that the main man in this book actually feels his feelings at some points, instead of having the emontional depth of a woodchip. INCREDIBLE READING EXPERIENCE, I NEED TO READ MORE EMILY HENRY SOON.

This is my first Emily Henry book and I loved it! The setting was fun, the humor appealed to me, and the characters were relatable. The conflicts got me rolling my eyes, but I'm happy about how they were resolved.

This book was fantastic. It's a classic enemies-to-lovers story, but it's crafted beautifully. Nora is initially positioned as the "city girlfriend" that gets repeatedly dumped by the protagonists of other stories. However, she is relatable, well written, and her relationship with Charlie feels natural and honest.

They don't do the tired plot point of not being open with each and then getting upset over a misunderstanding. Both characters live their lives in a straightforward and direct manner, and communicate to each other in a similarly honest way. This made their struggles feel less selfish, and more collaborative.

I was real worried about how Henry was going to end the story (I even had my stationary at the ready to write a strongly-worded letter), but she stuck the landing. I will be reading more of her work.

more chick-lit the romance, and I was expacting romance.

I was in a slump.

You know how sometimes you eat something bland and you're like ugh, that wasn't great and then a bit later after it happens again, you suspect you have COVID and just can't taste anything?

Anyone? Just me?

Anyways, that's how my reading was going. I felt absolutely nothing for books I thought I was going to love, and I was starting to think the problem was me.

That all changed with Book Lovers. this is a proper book! Great characters, amazing dialog, genuinely witty and thoughtful. 5 stars.

This book is delightful. It references all the Hallmark Christmas Movie tropes, and deliciously subverted them.
