There are so many scathing reviews of this book and I enjoy them all. I didn't hate it, but I have some issues with it. My biggest issue with this book is the author stand-in, a hybrid of Jesus, James Bond, Rambo and Don Corleone. This guy... wow, he is a karate master, explosives expert, doctor, linguistic savant, soldier of fortune, philosopher, and too many more to list. This is how the author sees himself?
I liked learning about Indian culture, but then realized I might get a better representation from an Indian author and had to ask myself, why am I reading this? He romanticizes the hell out of the place and then also describes scenes that make me never want to go there. I did like his anti-cop views and don't rat on anyone philosophy, so there's that.
