This is the most helpful bundle of insight on how to write a novel that I have found. I put down an arbitrary "completed" date because it's a reference book that one never really finishes.
I just keep going back to it again and again. The analyses of several different genre examples also included are treasure.
Absolutely invaluable.
Ich hab das nicht komplett gelesen, sondern nur Teile (die ich „brauchte“).
Find das Buch trotzdem extrem gut und eigentlich ist es der einzige schreibratgeber, den man braucht.
Be warned that much is missing in this modern take on James Campbell's flawed but semi-valid Monomyth theory. I disagree strongly with the proposed genres in this book - you only have to try and fit stories to them to show how incorrect they are. The knowledge in this book can help you gain a wonky understanding of plot structure, but please read more books on storytelling, because either version of Save the Cat is not the last book on storytelling you'll ever need.
For a book written about the nuances that make up a great novel and how to attain such a product, this guide was repetitive, unnecessarily lengthy, and oftentimes boring. Although there were a few gems, like the beat sheet, I was left underwhelmed and disappointed.
