Another home run for Hendrix about Generational Trauma

I sucked this book down in less than six hours. I have an addiction Grady Hendrix and I cannot lie. Just something about the yoink and twist he does on horror tropes just works for me.

And in this one, it's scary fucking puppets. If tou have a fear of dolls or puppets or masks you are about to have a horrible time. Or the best time depending on your personality. I loved how scary Pupkin was. I did grok the twist early but that's not a bad thing. Also I loved the marionette resistance because yeah. That makes sense for Boston.

The one thing that makes this a 4.5 out of 5 is that someone needs to tell Grady Hendrix he cannot keep using any WOC/POC as the third act answers person. It's a co stant in his works and it's consistently awkward.

Ok it's been some time now since I finished this. Uhm.... I thought the beginning was pretty slow, then halfway through it got scary in a way that I liked, and then later... it was just the characters getting hurt more and more and I disengaged emotionally.

Dolls and puppets are always scary

This is probably the scariest book I've read so far in my current journey into horror fiction. I'd good and I'm sure I'll be back for some more G. Hendrix at some point.

So, I inhaled this in one day.

Grady Hendrix keeps improving. This is the funniest book I've read by him. It's also the most focused. If The Final Girl Support Group was his most complex novel, How To Sell A Haunted House is him really drilling down on a few issues and knocking it out of the park. This story is about motherhood, and family, and death, and acceptance, and puppets.

So many puppets.
