The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth returns again. In the Third Age, an Age of Prophecy, the World and Time themselves hang in the balance. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.

Fleeing from Ebou Dar with the kidnapped Daughter of the Nine Moons, whom he is fated to marry, Mat Cauthon learns that he can neither keep her nor let her go, not in safety for either of them, for both the Shadow and the might of the Seanchan Empire are in deadly pursuit.

Perrin Aybara seeks to free his wife, Faile, a captive of the Shaido, but his only hope may be an alliance with the enemy. Can he remain true to his friend Rand …

I don’t know man, I don’t get why people don’t like this book (or the rest of the so-called “slog”…)

I loved it. Robert Jordan wrote such a tale of carefully-woven intrigue (much like the rest of the series.) Seeing characters like Loial make a return was quite gratifying. Seeing each perspective character and their reaction to “the beacon” was so intriguing. And yes, even though Perrin’s chapters dragged at points, I loved the action and his overall arc- can’t wait to see in the next book if he manages to rescue Faile, or if she makes her own escape with Rolan.

I guess I could go on a bit longer, but the upshot is that I really enjoyed the intrigue and political drama of these books, the so-called “slog” and all the rest. Thanks for so many great books, Mr Jordan!

The End of the Tenth Book of The Wheel of Time

Ugh. This was the hardest book to complete yet and the happiest I felt while reading it was seeing the end quote above appear.

I think my dislike of this instalment comes from the length of time I took to read it and the lack of story that occurred when I was reading it. I made slow progress through this book due to limited reading time so I had a very jerky reading cycle and couldn't get in to the story as I took a few days off between reads. When I did resume reading the pace was exhausting and nothing happened. I feel like that so much time had elapsed since the beginning of the book I don't know what occurred any more, but I imagine it was "Character A continues to do their same plot and makes …

I liked it much more than I thought I would; I was getting kind of bored with the series when I read the 9th book, I guess making a small break was a good idea :) I even thought it was a pretty short read - which, for 700+ pages is not bad.
The main characters of this book are Mat, Perrin, Egwene and Elayne; we don't see much of the others, including Rand. It is pretty slow-paced and most of the action is purely political, at quite large scales though. I really enjoyed the Mat/Tuon story, I thought it was funny and cute.
Not mind-blowing, but a nice read nonetheless.
