Really enjoyed this touching and often laugh-out-loud funny novel.
It's about love, about language and translation, and then differences of thinking in Chinese and English. And some of her observations, especially about English food, from the perspective of a newly arrived visitor from China are hilarious.

A sort of a coming of age book, although, except for sex, the protagonist didn't seem to have matured very much. The gimmick was that she's in England to learn English, keeping a journal, and you get to see her English skills grow over the course of a year. Written by a Chinese person, which excuses the mockery of the protagonist. Maybe that mockery was supposed to be humorous. If so, it was lost on me.
