I was an ardent watcher of the Great British Bake-Off when it was still the BBC, so of course I was extremely keen to read this book, and it did not disappoint.
I actually listened to the audiobook, which was excellently done with fitting voices for the different characters. Alexis Hall hit the ambiance of the popular baking show on the head and the romance was lovely, even if the original love interest turned out to be a very chliche villain.

3.5 stars. Filing under romance even though it isn’t really a romance, but more romance-adjacent “women’s fiction”. I know why this is marketed as a romance but I’m curious about why Alexis Hall himself, who actually does write romance and understands the genre well, describes it as one.

Loved how the structure emphasized the great British baking show-ness of this book. The contestants and show staff were perfect. Might give the next in the series a try and hope for an actual romance
