"The Battle for God" by Karen Armstrong is one of those rare books that blissfully drowns the reader in facts towards wider truths about the diversities and similarities of religions. Karen Armstrong, perhaps one of the more prolific non-academic, non-sectarian writers alive today, has constructed a taught, well written book examining the origins and development of fundamentalism against the backdrop of the interaction between modernity and religion. Very informative and will help one fill gaps in history and have a clearer, more nuanced understanding of current events. It is more than just a book on religion but also on the development of modern society today. I recommend this book highly for both the serious scholar and the causal reader (though I would caution the later to not feel bogged down in overwhelming historical details of her work).
