Well, it's better than the first book in that the star-crossed lovers are not together being all wooodgie, so they can actually accomplish things on their own. But what I liked most about the first book -- the strong sense of place in Prague -- isn't here at all. The chronology skips around a lot, and there were a few times I felt like I had missed a whole chunk of plot because of it (said plot having skipped ahead in time and then what actually happened is explained later...ugh.) On the other hand the minor characters -- Karou's friends Zuzana and Mik, and Akiva's brother and sister -- are charming and very well drawn. I'd like more of them and less of the ostensibly main characters, who are flat and unrelatable to me.
