Review of 'Half of a Yellow Sun, Americanah, Purple Hibiscus' on 'Goodreads'
5 stars
I hardly ever give fiction books five stars, but this book is incredible. The way it captures the oppressiveness of living in a religious and abusive house. The way it captures the complexities of being abused by someone powerful and admired. The way it captures the strain of loving your abuser (whether that is a person or institution). The way choices are limited and ppl pushed into decisions and lives they don't want. It isn't just about Nigeria or one abusive family or colonialism. It's about all oppressive ideologies and systems and our options in the face of them.
