If I was just rating the first book of the three collected here, it would get an extra star for the charming way it mashes up Napoleonic warfare and dragons, especially the (difficult to envision) sequences of "aviators" clipped to dragons with carabiners engaging in melee and firearms combat, but the extended meander across globe and back in the second and third books just revealed the extent to which the premise had not been entirely thought out for other societies of the time or an overall parallel history. The entirely pointless detour into Prussia and the siege of Danzig that took up the last hundred pages of the third book finally soured me on going any further.
