My current figurine project is Maomao from Apothecary Diaries by Pikkyprints. I did try a kind of translucent effect on the dress as a challenge for myself. Also painting the face at the moment. Trying the one with the sculpted eyes and without. #3dPrinting #Figurines #Nerdlings #MiniaturePainting #Anime #ApothecaryDiaries

Note: For those who have been following The Moonâs Hindmost Wound, this story takes place between chapters 11 and 12, before the debriefing.
When Mao got out of the carriage, she was exhausted. The events of the last two days had been draining. First, there was the Mushroom Princess, and then the attempted assassination of the Moon Prince. Everything turned out fine in the end, but Mao would rather live a peaceful life away from royalty and people with wind in their heads.
Speaking of people who were touched, she sighed. The Mad Frank was standing in front of a neighboring brothel, shouting about a guiding star, gifts, and three kings.

Speaking of people who were touched, she sighed. The Mad Frank was standing in front of a neighboring brothel, shouting about a guiding star, gifts, and three kings.
At least he wasnât raving about the end of times. Some of the younger girls got worked up over that. They hadnât learned yet that someone was always predicting the end of the world. Sometimes, their followers gathered to celebrate when the event was to occur. She had heard of one group that drank poisoned fruit juice when the world failed to end. They were either the Jonesites or the Seven Stars Approach.
Never mind. She was going to get some rest and enjoy her spoils.
âHeâs at it again,â said Ukyou, Verdigris Houseâs bouncer, greeting her.
âVery,â she replied.
âYou look tired. Iâll try to steer Madam away from you if she comes looking.â
She nodded in thanks, thinking, âA foolâs errand. Grams is unstoppable, especially if someone tries to deter her.â
She made her way to the shack she called home when she wasnât at the palace. Luomen was out, which she was glad about. It meant she could do as she pleased.
Before going to sleep, she wanted to look over her treasures. First was the small pot of poison she had received from the assassin. Then came the mushrooms and herbs she had gathered. Of those, the best were the windhead mushrooms and bugbane berries. She carefully put the lemony deathcaps aside.
On second thought, though, she hid them. No point in risking someone eating them or a lecture from Luomen. She wouldnât sample them, no matter how tempting. And finally, the three roasted #quail she had snagged coming back.

Mao pondered the woman sheâd just met. There was something very affable about her, windy thoughts and all. What kind of husband or father would let her wander around? For her own safety, they should lock her up before she poisoned herself or turned her brain to barley porridge.
Something this long #carriage trip threatened to do to her. It was a mystery why she had been summoned. One minute she was sorting medical supplies, and the next moment, Dr. Lu told her she had a quarter of an incense stickâs worth of time to prepare for a trip.
They should have inspected the carriage instead of rushing her. Losing a wheel had cost them more time than they had gained by hurrying her.

They should have inspected the carriage instead of rushing her. Losing a wheel had cost them more time than they had gained by hurrying her.
It was late when the wagon pulled into a dark, ill-kept inn. Even in the dark, Mao could see that the incident that had required traveling to the country was bigger than sheâd imagined. A dozen soldiers stood around looking solemn. Her breath caught in her throat. They were Jinshiâs guards. Had he been ambushed, fallen ill, been poisoned?
There was no point in speculating; she would find out soon enough.
Ignoring protocol, Mao jumped out of the carriage, almost running into Basen, who had hurried to meet it.
âCome, youâre late,â he said by way of greeting. She wanted to protest that it wasnât her fault; instead, she focused on what was important: âWhatâs goingâŠ?â
Basen didnât let her finish. âNot here. Iâll explain inside.â His voice was tight, and his brow furrowed with worry lines that reminded her of his fatherâs.
Dodging unsavory objects #mashed into the muddy ground, she struggled to keep up with Basen as he crossed the courtyard. It wasnât until they reached the door that she could try again. âHeâs not deadâŠ?â
Basen cut off again. âNot here, Niangniang. Soon.â
So what did she know? When they called for her, Jinshi couldnât have been dead yet. No one needs an apothecary for a corpse. The same logic held now. The rush meant he was still alive. But why her? Poison was the only reason she could think of, unless the Moon Prince wished to say something to her before he died. That was an eventuality she wasnât prepared to deal with, nor was she ready to confront the feelings it aroused.

Despite genre and medium necessitating a different flavor, MaoMao is a glass-mirror reflection of Dr. House. Her savant skills in medicine, dangerous substance use, and captivating-yet-enabling relationship with her manager structure the series. Yet, these are far from the only parallels. The way in which she solves medical mysteries: with a lack of concern for social guidelines, blunt truths, and fixating on puzzles also invokes Dr. House. In this essay I will

Etwas was mir hier sehr gefallen hat.
