In die Story gehend, dass ich den Kinofilm geschaut habe und diesen leider nur "ok" fand gehe ich hier leider mit etwas zu viel negativen hinein. Darum fange ich einmal damit an. Ich mag Souta hier überhaupt nicht. Er hat auf der einen Seite zu wenig Panel-Time und auf der anderen Seite ist er hier zu oft "lost", nicht der starke Wächter. Suzume selbst finde ich hier etwas besser als im Film. Sie kommt gefasster und weniger Hilfesuchend rüber. Der Zeichenstil ist… gewöhnungsbedürtig aber man wächst hinein und dann ist er angenehm. Leider finde ich ihn aber für "einen Makoto Shinkai" nicht passend, ist dieser doch bekannt für schöne Bilder, gute Landschaften und eine Bildsprache die zum Träumen an regt ist der Manga eher kindisch, locker und zu simpel gezeichnet.

Ich glaube leider auch, wenn man den Film nicht kennt geht vieles verloren was versucht wird zu erzählen, aber wer weiß, da irre ich mich eventuell auch. Ich find es ehrlich gesagt sehr schade aber eventuell ist es auch schlicht kein Manga für mich. :)

Finally watched Suzume, and as expected, it was fantastic and well worth the wait. Makoto Shinkai has been making the same movie every time since Voices of a Distant Star (or even She and Her Cat), and Suzume is no exception, but he’s now enough standard deviations out that each film has its own feel. The Shinkai trademarks are still here in Suzume: the iridescent blue and purple sky with lens flare and the relationship strained by distance, whether literal or figurative. But Suzume feels different than Weathering With You, so he’s still able to visit his usual themes without repeating himself, which is good.

Suzume also reminded me of another good recent anime film which probably flew mostly under the radar outside of Japan, but I hesitate to say which, as it could be a spoiler for one of the themes in Suzume. But I will say that it probably makes Suzume the Shinkai film that’s most relatable to many Japanese on a first-hand basis.

On a side note for the easter egg hunters out there, there was an unexpected amount of Studio Ghibli references in Suzume. Which is funny because Children Who Chase Lost Voices was Shinkai’s attempt at making a Ghibli film.

But I digress! If you’re a fan of Makoto Shinkai’s work, definitely see Suzume if you haven’t already.
