Another great read from @pluralistic about the reason that disaster fantasies are popular among the right: it replaces actual disasters caused by *systemic problems* with imaginary disasters to be solved by *individuals*, which in turn elevate the status of the prepper to a one-man (let’s face it, it’s usually a man) hero who saves the day.

It also strikes me that the nonsense that techbros seem to gravitate to is just another flavor of this prepper story: why bother saving eight billion real humans today when you can save countless trillions of potential humans tomorrow by building a treasure trove that you deploy into your favorite technologies? You’re not a profit-driven resource hoarder—you’re a one-man superhero!

Möchte niemandem zu nahe treten, habe mich jedoch in diesem Druko ebenso freundlich wie klar gegen den ausgesprochen. Ich sehe im (deutsch: Langzeitismus) und dem eng verwandten Transhumanismus philosophisch gefährliche Strömungen für die Menschenwürde und Gleichberechtigung. Und ich nehme wahr, dass schon jetzt faschistische Bewegungen darauf aufspringen & davon profitieren. Gestern habe ich mich nochmal mit beschäftigt und ich finde, dass man diese Philosophie und ihre ultimativen Konsequenzen immer mitdenken sollte, wenn man sich ihre Befürworter wie Elon Musk oder Peter Thiel ansieht.

Es klingt im Kern positiv, fĂĽhrt aber letztendlich zu irren Szenarien: Es ist egal, ob wir die Klimakatastrophe abwenden oder ob 99% der Menschheit draufgehen, solange nur nicht 100% draufgehen.

Multimilliardären wie Elon Musk, Peter Thiel oder Jack Dorsey wird es wohl schon lange nicht mehr um Profite gehen.
Wenn man sich mit ihrer Weltanschauung beschäftigt, landet man ziemlich schnell beim "Longtermism". Eine Ideologie, die die Zukunft auf Kosten der Gegenwart optimieren will, mit antidemokratischen Tendenzen und Nähe zur Eugenik.
Das Landen auf dem Mars ist nach der Logik mehr wert, als den Klimawandel zu stoppen.

Hvis man går inn i for noe som er inspirert av bevegelsen «effektiv altruisme» i 2023 så har man vel egentlig ikke helt fulgt med.

Og selvsagt er dette noe Aksel Braanen Sterri går inn for i en tenketank som heter «» sammen med Eirik fra «Gi Effektivt».

The ultimate grift of , of course, is that its proponents want you to focus on some abstract future *waves hands* grand problem/grand solution, and ignore the ones right in front of us today, because they are profiting handsomely by exacerbating today’s problems.

Some religious organizations also work this way. They are all grifts as well.
