3.5
Worth the read, somehow a more radical and modern version of The Bell Jar? However, I cought myself waiting for the gender stereotyping to be resolved in some way, but it wasn't, which left the featured characters quite hollow for me. Another book with a female protagonist seeking love and validation from stereotyped male figures.

Not very creative, not extraordinarily clued-up, but a decent human. Reads books / texts of all sorts in English and German. ❤️ for #dogs, #veganfood, #spreadsheets, #indiefiction

Realistic Pessimist reviewed Dark Neighbourhood by Vanessa Onwuemezi
Review of 'Dark Neighbourhood' on 'Goodreads'

Don't take this rating too seriously. I think my brain was just too tired to take this book in, so much went over my head, sometimes felt like it is written in a language I just know a handful of phrases of. I think it is a good book, just not ideal in exhausting times.
Realistic Pessimist reviewed Keeping the house by Tice Cin
Review of 'Keeping the house' on 'Goodreads'
5 stars
In subtle, poetic small portions Tice Cin tells the story of Ayla and her oldest daughter Damla, but also of other people close to them on the Farm estate in Tottenham and Cypress. In short glimpses from the perspectives of several characters of different generations the reader navigates through a never ending stream of male violence and the pores, sometimes even spaces of freedom some of the women open up for themselves through wit, will and repression. Both a sobering and reassuring read.
