An excellent first book of a series with an incredible magic system, and interesting people. Also, the best depiction of cats I've ever seen in any literature.

reviewed Soulhome by Sarah Lin (The Weirkey Chronicles, #1)

Sarah Lin: Soulhome (EBook, 2020)

One of the most interesting takes on progression fantasy I've read. Instead of the normal way of just sucking essence/power into yourself until you level up, in this series you literally have to build a physical house in your soul (hence the title). Additionally, I really like this one because, without getting into spoilers, the protagonist is unlike most other Isekai protagonists.

An awesome book based on a really interesting idea. A really interesting book, but you can definitely tell that it wasn't written to be multiple books. The ending is a pretty big cliffhanger, and you might want to hold off reading it until the rest of it is released.

A moderately dark book with a truly impressive amount of cursing that, despite my not usually liking excessive cursing in books, I really enjoyed. There's very little active magic in most of the book (and the main characters have none), but it does exist.

Christopher Paolini: To Sleep in a Sea of Stars (Hardcover, 2020, Tor Books)

Kira Navárez dreamed of life on new worlds. Now she's awakened a nightmare. During a …

It's a good book, but it should have been 2/3 the length. Overall, it's a interesting story with interesting characters. Unfortunately, I feel like it was written to be a certain length. I am rating this at 4 instead of 3 because I listened to the audiobook, which (for me) makes me more tolerant of slow parts.
