I wasn't emotionally engaged by either the horror nor the personal aspects of this story - though I do see qualities in both of them. The horror had some great imagery, but it's too quick to jump to "monsters" for there to be any uncomfortable in it. Had it lingered a bit more on people, instead of scary woods and trunks, I think I would have found it to be more effective (but I saw some reviews arguing the opposite, so there's that).

It's also a story about being a father, and feeling helpless against the fears faced by your child(ren). This, along with the art, is definetly the best part of the book.
